Lost Valley Trail Building Day
Date: Saturday, March 30, 2013, 9am to 1pm
Location: Lost Valley, St. Charles County
What:
A few of us have continued working on the newest section of trail that
we began at our January workday and we’re getting close to finishing
this section. While this is not an “official” trail building day, with
some help from our great volunteers we think we can get this trail open
in time for the summer riding season. Please note, there will be no
lunch available afterwards.
Where: Lost Valley, off highway 94 in St. Charles county.
From
the Highway 40/94 interchange: Take Highway 94 South approximately 5
miles. The trailhead parking lot will be on your right hand side. This
is the gravel parking lot at the bottom of the hill just past the
shooting range where we have met for the last several workdays. From the
parking lot we’ll either hike or carpool back to the worksite via the
gravel road. (See www.gorctrails.com for directions and details of the park).
What to bring: Gloves, Sturdy shoes, eye protection, and something to eat and drink on the trail.
GORC will provide: Trail building tools, instructions on trail building, and safety guidelines.
Hope to see you there!
Larry

GORC's Newest Sponsor - Etrailer - Debuts at Upcoming Lost Valley Workday
Etrailer.com will be sponsoring the upcoming Lost Valley workday this Saturday. They will have a few bike racks on hand to check out and will be raffling off a bit of swag! Be sure to introduce yourself to our newest sponsor - GORC will be unveiling an upcoming fall work season raffle that will extend through December and ending at the last workday at Matson Hill on December 15th!
Brief Background
The origins of etrailer.com trace back to 1946 as an RV park and service station. As the business grew, customers came looking for parts for their trailers. In 1976 new facilities were built that housed a showroom, warehouse and installation area. Demand for parts and accessories grew so etrailer.com was born and now currently resides in Wentzville across from the GM plant.
Now we work to serve the needs of campers, haulers, cyclists, kayakers, skiers and so many more. If you need to pull it or haul it, we can help you find the products to fit your needs. Our knowledge of racks and carriers is second to none whether you need to carry a bike, a snowboard, a cargo box or all of the above.

Lost Valley Workday Cancelled
Our workday at Lost Valley scheduled for 2/11 is being cancelled. We have plans and some rough flagging in place for new trail but are still waiting for final approval from Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) before we can proceed. We hope to have final approval soon and will be working on a new trail at our next workday scheduled for 3/17.
There has been some discussion of a smaller workday on 2/11 at Lost Valley to do some maintenance on the trail, but we are not certain if that will happen or not. If it does happen check our message board for details.
The proposed new trail will replace some of the existing gravel road that runs along the creek. If you've been out to Lost Valley (LV) recently you've noticed some temporary orange fencing near the creek. The last section of fencing you see as you ride clockwise is the first area we'll be concentrating on. Our plan is to build new trail that will connect to the existing trail where the short wooden bridge is located as you start up the big climb. The new trail will be just under a mile in length and will eliminate about 3/4 of a mile of gravel road. Longer term plans are to eliminate more sections of that gravel road with trail.

Lost Valley Workday- Saturday, October 2nd
We're going to do some well-needed maintenance at Lost Valley. Mostly Focusing on the trail we've built over the last two seasons. Just an effort to tune it up and remove/mitigate some minor problems we've experienced.
We'll need as many able bodies as we can get. Perhaps you think that maintenance workdays are not as sexy as building new trail, but this work is really needed and will help the trail immensely.
The Specifics:
When: Saturday Oct 2nd
9am - 1pm (please arrive by 8:45 or so in order to "shuttle" in to the work site)
Where: Lost Valley "Upper Parking lot" aka The Mound, ~2miles south of hwy 40 on hwy 94 just around the bend from the High School.
Details: Bring: Water, gloves, sturdy shoes, dress for the weather.
Expect: Enjoyable but strenuous work, camaraderie and good times.
We'll Ride after lunch too!! As always.
Misc... As always, FREE LUNCH, sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation will be provided after the work.
BONUS: Morning Coffee to be provided by the 2nd Street Bike Stop and Cafe
Sign-up and more info can be found on the message board.

Lost Valley Workday this Saturday Dec. 5th, 9am
Come out and help us complete the Lost Valley singletrack project. We'll be attempting to wrap up a brand new 1.5 mile stretch of trail - the "Bridge Reroute." We're halfway complete but need more volunteers to get it open to the public. This new extension will make it all singletrack and all in the woods, eliminating about 1/4-mile of boring fenceline, sometimes muddy, doubletrack. We have to FINISH this project this SATURDAY ONLY. WE NEED HELP!
Many thanks to Momentum Cycles for sponsoring the Lost Valley workday!!!
So, PLEASE! All hands on-deck for this one, last push to complete our great work out there and be able to ride it after lunch on the 5th. Give yourself and all St.Louis area mountain bikers, trail runners, and hikers an early Christmas present!
Post up here if you're coming out so we can get an idea on the food quantity. Weather will be cool, but should be great for trail building.
Details: December 5th, 9am to 1pm we work, then we lunch, then we ride. Lost Valley keeps getting better and better.
See you on the trail and be sure to thank Momentum Cycles for sponsoring the Lost Valley workday!!!

Lost Valley Workday - November 7th - 9am - 1pm
We will be building the next phase of singletrack at Lost Valley. We'll be building a 1-mile extension to the "bridge reroute" we completed last spring. This will make it all singletrack and all in the woods, eliminating about 1/4-mile of boring fenceline, sometimes muddy, doubletrack. We have to build 1 mile in 2 workdays. WE NEED HELP!
Nov 7th, 9am to 1pm we work, then we lunch, then we ride.
Please post up on the message board if you're going to show so we can get an idea on food order size.

3/21 Lost Valley Workday Recap
It may ride a bit bumpy right now, but by this time next year it will be as fast as you're willing to go. Look out area trails, Lost Valley is shaping up to be a singletrack rock star.
Be sure to tell all your riding buddies that GORC built this piece of trail and to come on out to future workdays - St. Louis riding is getting better every day.
Stay tuned as we'll have another workday sometime in the fall. The goal is to continue the trail out to the gravel road and eliminate the section through the field along the fence.
