Klondike Workday 5/16/09

On Saturday, May 16th, 2009 (@ 9:00) we're having a workday at Klondike Park, and all interested people are invited. You don't have to be a mountain biker - the trails are also open to hikers and trail runners. We need lotsa people to continue some basic maintenance on the west side of the park. Please come out and help make it ready for the rest of the summer.

Here's the basics on the workday:

Directions: From the Highway 40/94 interchange: Take Highway 94 South approximately 14 miles, past Defiance and Matson. The park entrance is on the left side of Highway 94, about 1/4 mile after you cross the Katy Trail for the second time. Please meet in the shower house parking lot.* (*We'll post signs if this changes to the maintenance yard lot.)

What to bring: Gloves, Sturdy shoes, eye protection, and something to drink on the trail. Kids are ok, but keep in mind we'll be moving dirt and rock, with exposure to sharp tools.

Please RSVP to: The St. Charles County Park's (SCCP) office [636-949-7535], or through the WebTrac registration system on the parks website http://parks.sccmo.org/parks/ so they can make food plans. (It would be nice if you posted here as well so we can plan how much to do.)

GORC & St. Charles County Parks provide: Trail building tools, instructions on trail building, safety guidelines, and chow afterwards.

Why: To improve the existing trail and better prepare it for future rain events.

After the workday: St. Charles County Parks will provide lunch (menu tbd). Bring your bike or trail shoes if you want to try what you built after you eat.

Before you come out: Please read pilznr's article about what to expect at a workday.
