Greensfelder Workday recap

First of all, looking at the above photo you can clearly see that this weekend was a crushing success. GORC finished the labor intensive switchback project that was started over a year ago.

Several volunteers set and lay stone for hours while three other crews worked on the other side of the ridge repairing erosion damage on all three of the climbing turns that get you up to the rollercoaster ridge section of the DeClue (going clockwise, this is the long climb after the monkeyheads.)

The flavor of the trail was taken into consideration with a new climbing turn that is now only 10% instead of the old 22% dirt channel that continued to get deeper after every rain. The second climbing turn was widened in place, smoothed out and a berm cut in where dirt was available. Lastly the third turn was slightly extended to facilitate better flow and control while maintaining your speed. All should handle the water much more effectively than in the past.

Check out the GORC handiwork for yourself and consider coming out to our workdays. If you like what you see in the woods then just think how much more can get accomplished with more pulaskis in the dirt.

GF Blog... What?

Bet you forgot that GORC has a separate Greensfelder blog... which can be found on the Greensfelder Trail page.

It transforms once a season into the GORC / UFD Greensfelder Challenge Race Blog but the rest of the year it's dedicated to news and info about Greensfelder. It's primarily maintained by me so the updates may be infrequent at times but I try to keep it current. Bloggatronix

Greensfelder Workday Update and Gallery

Thank you to everyone that came out today. We managed to armor three major wet spots, deburm some of Declue and open a 0.7 mile extension to the Declue Trail. Then we rode our bikes on some of the best conditions Greensfelder has been in April in forever. What a great day! Thanks for helping.

Greensfelder Workday/Party-- December 12th

Saturday, December 12th from 9am-1pm we'll be working on rerouting the section around the creek crossing below the rock garden. This is a fall-line section that's unable to be maintained. After this, there will be only a few other sections on both DeClue and Dogwood which are fall-line, and should help extend the time that Greensfelder is rideable throughout the year. We're also going to be doing a short reroute on the DeClue extension, and if we have enough people, there are a lot of other little projects we can work on.
Afterwards, there will be a party with refreshments for GORC volunteers to thank them for the hard work they've put in over the year to build new trails, and make the ones we have better. More info and sign-up are here.

Greensfelder Workday - Oct 3rd, 9am - 1pm -->> Come Help Build Some Sweet Trail!!!

Greensfelder beckons....

Yes, the fall workday schedule is in full swing! With the Burnin' at the Bluff 12 hour race and the Berryman Epic coming up quickly do yourself some good and bank some great race karma by attending a GORC trailbuilding workday.

We will be working on connecting the DeClue extension all the way to the Scenic Loop road. We need your help to finish the leg this year and get the trail connected so it can be ridden as a loop before winter! Some people have already been making it into a loop so we just need to do some final benchcutting work and making it awesome. If you ride a bike or a horse or use hiking boots then do yourself a favor and make your favorite St. Louis County park even better.

Maplewood Bicycle is sponsoring this workday and will be providing coffee, juice and bagels. They will be providing cool swag giveaways.

Details
9am - 1pm, lunch provided, group ride following lunch
Meet at the "tower" parking lot - first paved lot on the right side of Allenton road coming up from 6 Flags.

Greensfelder April 18 Workday Recap

Greensfelder - new trailThanks to the 23+ people who came out and made the workday a success. We nearly completed 1/4 mile of new bench with your hard work. The rain even held off and gave us perfect weather for working and lunch. Thanks to Maplewood Bicycles for sponsoring the event by being there bright and early with coffee, bagels and muffins. They also provided gift certificates to everyone that attended and a few attendance prizes including a full bike fit worth $250.00. Thank you one and all. We'll be back in the fall to continue this piece of trail.

Bryan and John removed a huge and stubborn stump that was smack in the middle of the singletrack bed. That tree stump ran home crying for it's Mother after John Twist and Bryan Adams got done with it!
